I am honored to present Dirk Erik Schulz, today’s guest artist on 1930 Nightmare Theatre.
The talented Mr. Schulz (AKA Themrock) hails from Germany and is one of the most unique and visionary artists I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. Check out his Deviant Art gallery and prepare to have your mind blown!
This week sees the 13-part Strawberry’s Quest come to an end. This was sort of an improv experiment in comic form: I wrote part one, and from their John and I took turns writing each part until the comic came to a “logical” conclusion. It was a lot of fun, and I like what we came up with. We won’t be doing it again anytime soon, however. We’ve got other fish to fry. We’ll do more multi-parters in the future, possibly just as long, but with the story figured out beforehand. In the meantime, we’ll be here with some gag strips, though we’re going to take a three-week break after Valentine’s Day. We’ve got some incredibly awesome guest strips for those weeks, so look forward to them.
In other news, all the old stuff in my Etsy shop is on über-sale, and I’ve added the piece above. Check it out at http://www.etsy.com/shop/TVsKyle
This little survey was created by Richard Dawkins, for his book The God Delusion. It’s designed to gauge how much or how little one believes in a god (or gods, or the God, or whatever). I’m pretty curious in seeing where the majority of the Dumm readers lie on the spectrum. I’ll go ahead an say that I put myself at #6, de facto atheist. Maybe some of the other Dumm artists will divulge their holiness or hedonism later on.
Grant Morrison is one of my personal heroes, quite possibly my favorite writer of comic books. At Disinfo Con 1999 he delivered one of the best speeches ever: here is my favorite part of that speech, it’s only 10 minutes long. I highly recommend it!
I’ve mentioned the talented Mr. Nick Edwards in the news section before, but it’s worth noting that his comic, Phantom Sword, is up on ZudaComics.com. I’m not too familiar with ZudaComics, but it looks like they put up 10 comic samples each month, people vote on them, and the winner receives a spot on their featured comics page, where they continue to update their comic. I guess just the exposure to Zuda’s audience is the prize…? I’m not sure if that’s worth signing away the rights to your characters. But anyway, I’d like to see more of Phantom Sword, so I signed up and voted for Nick. If you like his comic, you should too.
Hey everybody! Check out the new gag comics site Toon Hole, featuring fellow professional animation artists Chris Allison, Mike Nassar, Ryan Kramer and many others!
Zach Bellissimo (of past D-U-M-M-M fame) created some stunning fan art over the holidays, and presented them to us as late Xmas gifts. I certainly don’t mind Xmas in late-January when the gifts are this awesome. Thanks Zach, you kill!

I miss reading David Gemmill’s “Sorry Guys” comic every week. Yet, luckily, David is a machine that cranks out hillarious cartoony products no matter where he is. So check out his BLOG for a fresh new Gemmill comic, which gives you a kind of sneak-behind-the-scenes-peak of how David roughed out his work for Sorry Guys back when he was still at Dumm Comics.
