I may have spoken too soon, Scott Pilgrim did not turn out the runaway success it deserves to be. It placed like 5th in last weekend’s box office, I’m disappointed. Apparently most of america instead decided to go see a steroid-swollen old oily sausage fest.

Regardless,  Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is a still a guaranteed sleeper hit if ever there was one, along the lines of Nightmare Before Christmas or Fight Club, which both flew in under the radar and have just gone on and on in popularity for over a decade. See it in the theater while you still have the chance!

Someday you’ll be able to say “I was there… I took part!”

Tony Mora did this emotional filled comic Tour de Force, and with good reason. See, way back in ’98 Tony and I did a BPM web short at Spumco. He was there through the entire history of BPM, all the pilots, comics, the ups and downs, the triumphs the heartaches and through it all. Tony remained a powerful force in BPM’s development. He always believed in our little mouse friend, in fact, I’m sure I would have a career without Tony’s help.

So this was as emotional for Tony as it was for me.

Thanks Tony for everything, I’m sorry I had to murder your dreams.

And now for an another Analog Age:

Every once in a while something comes along that utterly fucks up everyone’s shit and completely reshapes culture.

Elvis, The Beatles, Punk Rock, Ren and Stimpy, Pulp Fiction, and now: Scott Pilgrim has K.O.’d the world.

The critical reviews of this movie are very interesting: generally positive but somewhat passive aggressive, skeptical and condescending. It’s like the old farts admit it’s brilliant, but it makes them angry… their critiques smack of jealousy and intimidation. But this movie is not for them, it’s a movie that truly loves and respects the real people in the audience. It works on the deepest levels, yet speaks to everyone in a super appealing, friendly, timeless way. It’s a manifesto of youth and life and art and humanity.

We have a new champion, his name is Scott Pilgrim. FLAWLESS VICTORY!

Proof that a movie can be light-hearted, made for kids, and cheesy as hell, and still be REALLY REALLY good. See it in 3D and sit kind of close, right in the middle of the theatre! Stay for the end credits! The dancing sequences in this movie are more spectacular than any CG I’ve ever seen. I was flipping out!
