A note about Skadi’s origin
by katie

No doubt, some of our observant readers will notice that our Skadi and Diseasoid origin stories contradict some of our older comics (three, at least). Hopefully this won’t bother too many people! While keeping continuity is important, it’s unavoidable for characters to develop more and more as we keep making comics, despite the ideas we may have had for them in the beginning.
But…for the hardcore types who demand continuity, here are some “justifications”:
- In “The Ballad of Skadi Part 1″, where Skadi leaves her village happily as an adult…that’s just an idealization from her point of view…why dwell on sad things of the past?
- In “On Bushbeasts”, where Skadi is seen buying Diseasoid from the slavetrade…well, they’d already met…he was, uh, kidnapped by traders, and Skadi was merely taking him back. Judging by Diseasoid’s scared expression, he was obviously trying to lay low and blend in with the other miserable half-dead slaves to avoid being Skadi’s “friend” again.
- And in “Food #4″, where Skadi crosses “bushbeasts” off her “meat to eat” list, well we all know she isn’t all that bright of a girl. That list probably has a lot of repeats and mistakes.

IT’S NOT CANON!

actually, yeah, those all sound about right. Not that I would worry too much about canon for this to begin with.

I honestly don’t remember every detail of the story, but I thought Bushbeasts were poisonous when you hit them. Ya know since the cannibal guy died just from taking a bite. Other than though Skadi is one of my favorites of the week. Nothing like starting the hump day with some Skadi.

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY! \o/
I don´t care, Skadi is still the best strip in Dumm Comics for me, keep doing the great job! ; )

um, not buying it.
In strip number 11-A (dated September 2008), Skadi is clearly seen carrying a skull of some sort which obviously was meant to belong to the Thrangar creature seen in strip number 33-H (March 12th), althought when we finally see the beast, it has 11 horns instead of 10. If I wanted sloppy continuity, I would read that shitty 1930 Nightmare Theater.

Ah hell no, Boleander. You did NOT just diss the Nightmare Theater. (snaps fingers several times)
In other news, I don’t much care for continuity. The origin stories are hilarious, so far! Your explanations are good too, Katie!
Keep this up. Wanna see where it ends.

Boleander, stfu bitch

Ok, I’ll buy that. Good cover.

I don’t care that much. I can understand that over time, you’d get new ideas for your storyline. I don’t even need the excuses to be cool with it. The comics are still completely awesome.
As for you, Yergabick, here’s a nice big cup of STFU. =D

Why not just say that Diseasoid survived the fall after Skadi tossed him, ended up in the slave-trade, and was too shocked and young to completely remember Skadi as his parents killer? It would explain her fairly automatic fear of her, and she’s dopey enough to space on that particular matter.

Actually I agree with Boleander on this one. Skadi was a comic I was really starting to enjoy and I loved the fact they were trying to actually have a story and plot. And the writers just kind of ruined it. I mean, while you were writing it, didn’t you even realize what you were doing? Did you not think for one someone wouldn’t bitch about this?
Sometimes series need to be rebooted because the writers did something stupid, or because they made a character too powerful. But Skadi was going along just fine the way she was, there was no reason to try and reboot the series and there was no reason to make such glaring continuity errors.
The whole bush beast thing is a very valid point. Even your comics state that bushbBeast is not good for ANYTHING at all. And are supposed to harbor every single disease ever known. There has even been times people died from taking a bite out of Diseasoid, or even touching him for that matter, so how the hell could Skadi eat two adult bush beasts?
On a side note, way to go Boleander! I actually enjoy the comic 1930 Nightmare Theater, but I am not enjoying all the fucked up continuity with it, nor the author’s lack of care on the matter.

@ JK: I’d play you a sad song but I seem to have misplaced my violin…

How old is Skadi, anyway?
August 5th, 2009 at 8:38 am
Ashvati, we’re guessing that grown-up Skadi is around 19 or 20 (I think).

You don’t really need much continuity, since for the most part it’s a gag-a-day type strip. Since Skadi is the best comic on this website (arguably the only consistently good one), you’re forgiven as long as you keep making more comics.

Regarding “Food #4″- maybe she did remember, and she just wanted more bushbeast!
