The End…
by Fred
A word about the end… Some people may find this ending to be sad, but that’s not really the intention. I knew there had to be a big sacrifice at the end and initially I had Fiz die. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I really started to like the character quite a lot and just couldn’t bring myself to kill him. I came up with this version several weeks ago and it felt right. What would the biggest sacrifice from a boy who desperately wanted to believe in aliens be: Having made friends with one then being forced to erase it all. This accomplished two things, the big sacrifice, and restoring Sam’s sense of wonder and curiosity. So, I hope you don’t find it too sad, maybe just a little bittersweet.
Now that it’s over, I hope you’ll find the time to go through and read the whole thing beginning to end.
A word about Dumm Comics… This has been by far one of the most rewarding things I’ve been able to do in my professional career. Gabe, Sean, David, Luke, Katie, and Ricky are all huge heroes to me and I look forward to seeing the inspiring work they continue to do. Special thanks to Matt Gadbois who did so much behind the scenes work for Dumm but who gets so little credit.
A word to you, the readers… Thank you all for the comments, I read every single one (even though I rarely reply) and always have looked forward to your feed back. If ever I slacked, you guys made me aware of it and helped step it up.
A word about the future… Even though this is the end of the Earthward-Ho! story, this is not the end of the strip. I plan on coming back to Dumm Comics from time to time to do guest strips. There are a few back stories I’d still like to tell with the characters and in particular, Pea Zoup’s rise to power. So count on that.
Before that, expect to see a an animated short here sometime in the coming months. The first one will be very short, between 15 and 30 seconds. It will feature Rufus and Horny and I’ll be providing the music to that as well on my very own sax-a-ma-pone. Then there will be a second short between 3 and 5 minutes, though honestly I have no idea what that one will be about just yet.
So, once again, thanks to all the Head Dummies, thanks to all of you, and thanks to my loving and understanding wife. I hope you enjoy…

The ending was sad… not because of the way things ended (actually I found it perfect) but because it’s OVER. So sad there won’t be more of these. I’m glad you let Fiz live.
I hope you enjoy doing animated shorts, and I look forward to the guest strips. Thanks for everything!

Aww. Bittersweet indeed. Well done. Strange how the tone of a story can be defined by its ending. The whole thing now makes me think… if this comic were to have a theme song, I’d nominate Supertramp’s “Take the Long Way Home.” The melody is just whimsical and plaintive enough, the lyrics fit and everything.

Spectacular spectacular the words in my vernacular NOW include Earthward - HO!
What a perfect ending to a truly remarkable series - your ability to show such a variety of emotions in such a variety of ways is rare and special - thanks for sharing your talent with me. I am a fan for LIFE.

I just read all the comics from start to beginning. It was obviously better that way, due to the story element, and I have to say… it was freaking awesome. I forgot how good the space designs were. So thanks a lot for making these! I look forward to your cartoon…
