Good Fantasy Webcomics!

by luke

It might not come as much of a surprise, but I love a good fantasy story…be it a book, or a movie, or in this case a webcomic! It’s also not a much of a surprise that there are a lot of BAD fantasy webcomics out there. Yet, mixed it with the bad, I’ve found a few that I really like. Here are two of my favorites:

Dawn of Time, By Michael Stearns: http://www.dawnoftimecomics.com

Dawn of Time is about the adventures of a scantly clad prehistoric girl (yeah, so there’s probably some parallels you can draw to Skadi there). Yet, aside from the automatic pluses of being about a cave girl who hangs out with dinosaurs, Dawn of Time is really well written, despite the fact that it actually has very few words.  Storytelling with pictures instead of words is definitely something we need more of these days.

Gastrophobia, by David McGuire: http://www.gastrophobia.com/

Gastrophobia is…well, about the adventures of a cute barbarian girl…(okay, so I like what I like.) Yet, most importantly, it’s the art and writing that really make this comic stand out. McGuire has a simple and appealing style of drawing that I really dig. He’s also a very talented storyteller, and pretty funny to boot.

So, check these out! And if you know of any other good fantasy webcomics, let me know!

I love those comics! A couple other good ones are North World (www.northworld.com) and Girl Genius (it’s a steampunk one, if you’re into those things- http://www.girlgeniusonline.com). Hope you enjoy them!

Tales of Pylea http://talesofpylea.com well drawn comic, started ok and got better after the artist picked up a writer.
Tales of the Traveling Gnome http://ttg.comicgenesis.com best drawn comic on the net, same writer as Tales of Pylea above
