Cinderwild wins the Prize!

Thursday, April 30th, 2009 by Ricky

Cinderwild wins the prize for the best “What is Kimbo” essay. The theory was completely wrong, of course, but I liked it anyway. Cinderwild will be awarded a copy of Komikwerks vol. 2 from 2003, featuring Kimbo’s first ever print appearance.

Be warned: I was a worse artist then, than I am now.

look at dis weird shit.

As a special added bonus, Komikwerks vol. 2 also includes a classic Big Pants Mouse story titled “Keep That Thing Under Control! This Ain’t No Place For Your Sticky Liquid”.

Go to the forums to check out all the terrifying entries, and to claim your prize!

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

This week’s Skadi presents the special guest stars Sean Szeles and his girlfriend Kellie.   We decided to air this one today due to Sean leaving, as a sort of dedication to Mr. Szeles.  Skadi may not be all that approving of Sean’s “vegonian” ways….yet, in the end, maybe she learned some manners…..although, that’s fairly unlikely.

Thanks Sean for sticking with us for so long!  You and the captain will be missed!

Also, as an addendum to my list of Good Fantasy Webcomics from an earlier news post, I’d like to mention Much the Miller’s Son, By Steve LeCouilliard.  It’s really a gem of a webcomic, with the rare combination of being both very well drawn and written.  Definitely give this one a chance.

Becky Dreistadt on Dumm Comics!!

Friday, April 24th, 2009 by katie

We at Dumm are super excited to have Becky Dreistadt here as a weekend guest!  Becky is an incredibly talented and imaginative artist from New Zealand.  You’ve definitely gotta check out her adorable new webcomic, “Tiny Kitten Teeth,” created with her boyfriend Frank.  Tiny Kitten Teeth is entirely hand inked and painted in gouache!  This gives the comic a completely unique and beautiful look.  Her artwork is really something to be excited about, so check out her website, Owl Factory, as well as her DA site, Pocketowl!  Leave no link unexplored!  I’m warning you!!

Three News Items In One Post!

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009 by luke

#1, A HUGE thanks to Zach Bellissimo and Tara Billinger for taking over Dumm for 2 week!

We couldn’t have asked for two more talented artists to violate Dumm Comics, hold our html hostage, and slap up their beautiful artwork in place of our comics for the last two weeks. It’s been nothing short of an amazing treat to see their takes on the Dumm line-up. Alas, two keenly placed sniper shots have put an end to Tara and Zach’s grip on Dumm, and the Head Dummies have regained the reins. Starting next week, it’s back to all-new original daily content from yours truely, and the rest of the Dumm gang!

#2 The Skadi posters have been a great success so far!

A big thanks goes out to everyone who bought one of our limited edition Skadi prints. However, there’s still about 20 left (out of 50), so if you missed out, get one while you still can at www.funnycute.etsy.com

I’d also like to add that Katie draws these amazing little original Skadi “thank you” postcards for anyone who purchases something from her store. She didn’t want me to mention them, since they’re intended to be a nice little surprise, but they’re so cool that I just couldn’t resist. I’ve posted a few samples above.

#3 And last, but not least… Next week is the Captain’s last Tuesday.

Be sure not to miss the Captain’s last hurrah next Tuesday. Sean Szeles (and the Captain) will be sorely missed from the Dumm line-up, yet look for the silver lining in our new mystery Head Dummy who is scheduled to start on May 5th (our one year anniversary!) He’s already created a back-log of killer comics that are ready and waiting to air….and personally, I think you’re all gonna love ‘em!

That wraps up the INCREDIBLE Zach Bellissimo Week!

Saturday, April 18th, 2009 by luke

Wow, what a great week! Thanks a ton, Zach, for giving us your disturbingly unique and magnificent take on the Dumm line-up. It was such a treat to see all of the Head Dummy’s styles re-envisioned in such a crazy and amazing way. The only thing left to say is, I can’t wait to do it all over again next week with Tara Billinger at the helm!

In the meantime, check out Zach’s blog, Snaggle-Tooth Salad, for some really cool behind-the-scenes stuff!

Good Fantasy Webcomics!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009 by luke

It might not come as much of a surprise, but I love a good fantasy story…be it a book, or a movie, or in this case a webcomic! It’s also not a much of a surprise that there are a lot of BAD fantasy webcomics out there. Yet, mixed it with the bad, I’ve found a few that I really like. Here are two of my favorites:

Dawn of Time, By Michael Stearns: http://www.dawnoftimecomics.com

Dawn of Time is about the adventures of a scantly clad prehistoric girl (yeah, so there’s probably some parallels you can draw to Skadi there). Yet, aside from the automatic pluses of being about a cave girl who hangs out with dinosaurs, Dawn of Time is really well written, despite the fact that it actually has very few words.  Storytelling with pictures instead of words is definitely something we need more of these days.

Gastrophobia, by David McGuire: http://www.gastrophobia.com/

Gastrophobia is…well, about the adventures of a cute barbarian girl…(okay, so I like what I like.) Yet, most importantly, it’s the art and writing that really make this comic stand out. McGuire has a simple and appealing style of drawing that I really dig. He’s also a very talented storyteller, and pretty funny to boot.

So, check these out! And if you know of any other good fantasy webcomics, let me know!
