TTPH Best Character Concept Award!!!- LFW

Monday, March 30th, 2009 by Sean

Here’s another great Through The Port-Hole contest comic by Australian artist L. Frank Weber.

I chose this for best Character Concept because I think LFW captured the Captain’s character spot on!  Also, we get to see a glimpse of his past and find out how he got to be who he is.  Plus, it’s just a great gag, clearly and cleverly staged.

If you want to check out more of Weber’s art, here’s his blog: http://lfrankweber.blogspot.com/

or, check out his own comic: http://www.drunkduck.com/Alien_Circus/

Guess who’s coming to Dumm?

Monday, March 23rd, 2009 by Ricky

Musician, cartoonist, and internet celebrity: TV’s Kyle is a true renaissance man who never fails to impress. During the Dumm Tryout, Kyle was a real champ and was the first to do his own version of each of the five daily Dumm comics!

In celebration, this week we will be featuring Kyle’s unique take on Big Pants Mouse, Through the Port-hole, Skadi, 1930 Nightmare Theatre, and Earthward Ho!

…And keep an eye out for Frog Raccoon Strawberry, coming soon to weekends on Dumm comics!

Battlestar Galactica Series Finale!!!

Thursday, March 19th, 2009 by Fred

bsg

Tonight, the best Science Fiction series on television comes to an end. It’s both super exciting and a little sad, exciting because we finally get to see what happens to the crew of Battlestar Galactica (will they finally find a home, will Baltar find redemption, who or what is Kara Thrace???) Sad because this show has brought so much entertainment every Friday night that will be sorely missed. I guess there’s still the prequel series “Caprica” but for some reason it looks less compelling than BSG. Anyway, if you’re a fan, be sure to tune in tonight, if not I can’t recommend this show enough so check it out.

Just out of curiosity, are there any BSG fans who read Dumm Comics, if so I’d love to hear your theories about what’s going to happen tonight or after the show airs what you thought about it.

Presenting Skadi, By April Haddon!

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 by luke

April Haddon wins for cutest Skadi comic contest entry! Somehow she squeezed Skadi’s barbarian attitude into an adorable little package, yet still managed to keep the essence of our comic in tact. Diseasoid’s naive innocence and Skadi’s reckless abandonment are captured perfectly, all while being portrayed in a unique take on the Anime super-deformed style.

If you want to see more of April’s delightful work, check out her website or her DA page!

TTPH Doppelganger Award - Bob Cavin III!!!

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009 by Sean

Here’s my pick for the Doppelganger Award because, well, Bob definitely came the closest to mimicking my own way of drawing Through the Port-Hole.  But on top of that, I almost did a strip exactly like this! Well, pretty close.  I’ll post up the thumbnails as soon as I can find em.

Bob is a storyboard artist who moved out here recently from the east coast I believe.  I met him briefly over at Cartoon Network, and he seems like a stand-up guy!

If you want to check out more of Bob’s work, here’s his site! http://www.bc3graphics.com/

Thanks again for the awesome strip Bob!

TTPH K.I.S.S. Award - Tom Rollinger!!!

Monday, March 9th, 2009 by Sean

Here’s my pick for the K.I.S.S. or Keep It Simple Stupid Award.

Nothing’s funnier then a simple gag expressed very clearly and Tom Rollinger knocks it out of the park!

The drawings almost have a kinda Fleischer-y quality to them and I love his take on the TTPH logo.  Also, more word play, which is always great it my book.  Get it… book.

Tom is currently a student at The Art Institute of San Francisco studying animation, and I’m hope we get to see more of his work in the future!

Check out his blog where he writes about cartoons and animation. http://tomstoontroubles.blogspot.com/

James Russo Strikes Again!

Sunday, March 8th, 2009 by Gabe

Yes, the great James Russo is back! He won my second place spot! I love this strip, not only are the drawings top notch, but he managed to get a child molester joke in there…

Here’s some of James Russo’s other work:

Funniest TTPH Fan - Johnathan Mastron!!!

Monday, March 2nd, 2009 by Sean

Here is my 2nd place pick for the Through The Port-Hole contest by Johnathan Mastron.

I love, love, love the innocence of this comic.  Just three characters scared of a ghost, simple as that.  And the drawings, while some might say aren’t technically the best, are full of life and character, and are just hilarious!  I love the Captain’s wrinkled knees and his bulging eyes.  The seagulls are really cute as well, especially when they’re all hiding underneath the bed.

I guess my favorite part would have to be the dialogue.  “Ghosts?! We have to HIDE! Hide from the Ghosts!!” Perhaps it wasn’t done on purpose, but I’m a sucker for over-explanatory dialogue.

Great job Johnathan!!
