Vote for Dumm!

Wednesday, January 21st, 2009 by luke

Hey everyone, now that you’ve got your new president in office, it’s time to vote for something TRULY important! Click the banner below (or the button to the right) to vote for Dumm Comics so we can try to get our humble comic site on the front page of the Top Web Comics List. It looks like we’ll have to get over 360 votes to make it to the front page, which will give us a nice little boost of added exposure…..which is what webcomics live off of ! So if you love Dumm, then give us a few seconds out of your day and vote for us!

Thanks!

Hint:  You can vote every 24 hours, so stuff the ballet box with Dumm votes!

(The verification process is a little confusing….so hang in there and try to get your vote through!)

Please don’t post your contest entries anywhere!

If you do, your entry will be disqualified! Please read the the rules.

Have patience, fellow Dummies! Results will be announced on Monday.

Another Awesome Animated Short!

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009 by luke

If you didn’t get your fill of fighting cartoon girls from today’s Skadi, then you’ve gotta check out this amazing new animated music video by the genius cartoonists Nick Cross and Dave Cooper. The short is animated to a track called King of Magazines by Danko Jones. Dave Cooper designed the characters and drew the storyboards, and Nick Cross (along with Steve Stefanelli) brought the film to life using their magical Flash skills. A couple of the Dumm artists worked with Nick indirectly on Ren and Stimpy Adult Party Cartoon, which Nick was the Art Director on. Nick was stationed in Spumco North (in Canada), while the rest of us were at Spumco South (in Hollywood, Ca), so we never got to see each other, but it was always a pleasure to see his work. You can see more of Nick’s stuff at his blog.

LIFE ON MARS and Battlestar Galcatica

Thursday, January 15th, 2009 by Fred

Big Space news! Nasa yesterday held a huge press conference where they divulged what we all already knew… there is life on Mars. Okay, they didn’t exactly come right out and say it but they did discover methane gas in Mars atmosphere. On Earth Methane is produce by only two things, cows farting (and other biological processes) and volcanoes erupting. So considering that Mars hasn’t had any active volcanoes in thousands of years and methane deteriorates relatively quickly, that leaves only one possibility… Martian Cows with monster flatulence. Anyway, if you’re interested and want the real facts look here… http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/space/01/15/mars.methane/index.html

And in further space news… tonight is the season premiere of the greatest sci-fi show on television, Battlestar Galactica. If you haven’t seen it before I suggest renting, netflixing, or buying the DVDs so you can start from the beginning. Tonight kicks off the final season of this amazing show so be sure to set your vcr, dvr, tivo, or other recording device for the Sci-Fi Channel at 10 pm!

History Lesson

Amazonian Warrioresses

Greek mythology speaks of a tribe of all-female warriors known as The Amazons. The word Amazon is said to mean “without breast”. This is due to the legend that Amazons had their right breast removed in order to better facilitate the drawing of a bow, as the bow and arrow was their primary weapon.

by popular demand: DEADLINE EXTENDED

Saturday, January 10th, 2009 by Ricky

Wow! Thanks to the overwhelming response we’ve received so far, and thanks to the large amount of requests for a deadline extension from artists who want to turn in additional strips, we have decided to extend the deadline to NEXT SATURDAY, JANUARY 17TH, AT MIDNIGHT.

We have been super impressed by all the entries so far, from professionals and beginners alike! Don’t forget that we are judging on different criteria and skill levels, and there will be multiple guest-spot prizes awarded, so your chances are great to have your strip run officially on Dumm Comics. You have one more week, use it wisely! See you soon!

This week’s guest artist: Sean Kreiner!

Friday, January 9th, 2009 by luke

Sean Kreiner currently works as a storyboard artist along side three Dumm artists (Fred, Gabe, and Myself) at Nickelodeon on a new show called The Penguins of Madagascar. He’s a super talented, young, up-coming cartoonist that you’ll definitely be hearing a lot about in the years to come. Aside from his day job, Sean and some of his college buddies from CSU Fullerton have been putting together an epic webcomics site called Toonhole, which is due to lunch in July! There’s not much on the site right now, but you can check out the contributing artists’ work at the Toonhole Blog.
