"A Cry For Help" by Gerald DeJesus
August 31st, 2010 by GabeThis is it, the definitive end to Big Pants Mouse. I saved Jerry's masterpiece as the final final final Big Pants. Why? Because it's all there. Like us all, Jerry has always had a soft spot in his heart for this little mouse, but unlike the rest of us, Jerry's heart is quite different.
Jerry is an amazing artist. You have seen his work and you didn't even know it!

My friend Tony introduced Jerry to me at a Carl's Jr. in '99. Tony wanted me to put in a good word for Jerry at Spumco. He was amazing, and we hired him for his flash expertise, but unbeknownst to me, I already "knew" Jerry.
See, some of us guys at Spumco had this contest called the "Ace Card". We would find the nastiest filthiest videos online and share them as our "ace card". Tony always seemed to have a HUGE amount of videos and would usually always win. But those times changed when Jerry started at Spumco. Jerry was Tony's secret supplier of depravity. If I would have known this, I would have told our boss that we needed to hire Jerry on his filth finding abilities alone!
Since then, I think I've worked with Jerry on every flash project I've done, including the Big Pants Mouse pilot at Disney. He is an amazing art director, bg designer, painter, animator, and all around great guy. Thanks for the final word Jerry, you put the final nail in Big Pant's coffin.
Thank you all for all the support over the years. Here's to the end of Big Pants and the start of Life In The Analog Age next week!

what a weak comment.
eat a dick.
?
Look YOU GOT A RESPONSE to your shitty comment. aren't you excited buddy? HMM
Feels good. did you refresh 34 times until my comment appeared.
Aren't you a happy cappy camper.
well shit dude, here's another one. some more attention.
feels good doesn't it? that someone gives a shit about you.
you're a fucker because you post comments like the anonymous asshole that you are. clever clever with your "pity" of me because of my unfortunate "curse"
I pity the lame-stain on this earth that trolls and brings down others in complete pussy anonymous fashion because they have no lives and nothing better to do. If you don't like it, no big fucking deal, but your little wiseass comments are just an example of your desperation for attention while berating me.
And it doesn't help that you're one of the first to comment. Like you've been waiting patiently for tuesday to roll around just so you can shit on my comic.
so yeah dude, fuck off, or keep coming back and posting bullshit comments. It doesn't matter either way. Last time i checked no one gave a shit enough about your artwork(if you drew),life(if you had one) to visit your blog/website(if you weren't so lazy to manage one) that they would
a. leave comments
b. leave asshole comments
Put the pieces together. And feel free to comeback and defend yourself and insult me more.
Enjoy.
Dumm comics.
That's what this shit is about.
o-hay and the others that are obviously the same troll posting under different names, thanks as well. you make dumm comics worth visiting.
You're an idiot.
And if they even are trolls, you've been feeding them the equivalent of a gourmet meal every time you respond to them.
And seriously, they can't all be winners. I like the art, but this comic was kind of lame.
and our comics are cool. strangely i like them (and still can't understand why people think that every comic must be HAR HAR funny):)
I never thought there were only two categories of comments until now. I always thought there were several types:
-Quick and impulsive comment, normally five words or less.
-Comment of endearment, where one tells the artist exactly what makes the comic or piece of artwork enjoyable and does not point out a single flaw.
-Questions, for if one doesn't quite understand the focus of the displayed piece.
-Explanations for the said questions.
-Comments of endearment, followed by one or two quirks that the individual claims could have been improved upon, though it doesn't mean the comic isn't enjoyable.
-Critiques, or rather, comments explaining how the artist in question can improve their work greatly if they choose to follow the offered advice and tips.
-Hate comments sparked by individuals who have a personal problem with the artist or the artwork itself for various reasons.
-"Troll" comments, which offer no means of endearment or critique, but just aim to spark a bit of drama either within the artist or the surrounding community, even without actually taking a good look at the piece in the first place.
I believe those are the basic forms of comments. Am I wrong?
but those overlap to an extent. People guise their comments with sarcasm etc.
j-dawg - no, i'm sorry, you're wrong. I never said i drew awesome anywhere. Never thought of myself as an exceptional artist.
If you are referring to a previous comic, ala Luckster's critism. just read Katie's comment. I think she explains it pretty well. thanks.
Dzonis - thanks, I'll do it in my future comics from now on. Sorry about that.
What's worse is the fact in how he responds to people who post in the comments section. He treats anyone who does not praise him like shit and a troll.
But worse still is his little cult fan followers, for whatever reason unknown to me, insist that David is a great guy and his comics are fantastic. I wonder if he does most of his comics when he has a hang over, because no self respecting artist would submit shit of this caliber.
Dumm Comics needs to do something, either about how comments are relayed, or Davids bad attitude. Because he himself is ruining the good name this site once had. Not with just his bad attitude, but his awful comics, that are have come close to borderline pornography.
I can't even watch 'Mighty B' on Nick anymore, now that I know such a fucking cock works with the show.
A comment could be written entirely of endearment, but could actually be fully sarcastic and a joke, as the writer intends it to be, hoping you'll buy their false impression of said endearment and laugh behind their computer screens.
While as a comment of criticism could be written with the utmost sincerity, while the writer hopes that their comment will be seen somewhat as an enlightenment so that the reader will be motivated to improve. Yet it is interpreted as a rude, sarcastic, and 'troll-ish' comment, unworthy of being treated with respect.
Unless you truly know the person behind the comment, or hear the tone of their voice, it's a little unfair to assume if one is being sarcastic or not, unless it's exceedingly obvious.
where as others are endearing ex:
Tacothesmurf's comment- while he admits that he thinks this comic was lame, which i'm cool with, because it's his opinion (and he's a regular poster), he doesn't write it in a sarcastic way nor does he make a point of trying to undermine/insult me.
You're all right. You don't seem to be as bad an individual as others say. You just need to be spoken to in a more proper manner, rather than being screamed at with such foul language polluting the comment.
That is because you are falsely modest. Every blog post you make is plagued with false modesty. For example on your most recent blog post you say..
"crappygenericpoop generic wonky poop.. sorry guys"
Yuck. How repulsive to pretend your drawings are bad when you yourself know that they are not in order to appear humble.
It's sort of humorous actually because you obviously are not humble. What you are is incredibly egocentric, otherwise you would not respond to constructive criticism in the form of angry child-like fits.
One more thing. "Sorry Guys" is a painfully obvious and embarrassing catch phrase that you use towards your blatant and ridiculous displays of false modesty.
BOOYA!
Because it's fucking funny, and we all get a weird feeling of false superiority over our enemy, be you: troll, artist, or critique-er-guy.
All you butt-farts are faggier than a boner!
No wait! Don't stop. Keep up it! Here, I
the drawings i posted are flawed, have wonky aspects (the foot in the one pose is off) and are generic, i.e. a generic design that isn't very creative..because i wasn't pushing myself enough expand beyond that cat design. They weren't up to my own expectations.
Since you're researching my previous comments while trying to psychoanalyze me, you might find that i admit to a. sometimes respond to negative comments in a crazy fashion on purpose/as a joke. b. sometimes defend myself against comments which i find are generally insulting or propagate falsities about me and my character(this one) b. correct others on their "constructive criticism" when it's not really constructive at all, or i may not see any value in it because it might not be articulated well, or it might not be in line with what i'm trying to do with my comic(again referring to last weeks comic)
Sorry guys is and inside joke between me and the other dumm artists when i was trying to come up with a title and "sorry guys" was what the little dolphin would say after something awkward happened. Also it was a reference to the "groaners" and silly cheezy puns in my comics. Like a self conscious shrug after delivering an admittedly silly/stupid joke.
It's a comic people. Either you find it funny or you don't. Go take your "serious business" to some political forum where acting like a spoiled child is encouraged.
Haha, Walt Disney and Mickey look great. I can never draw Mickey appealingly.
the sorry guys is a reference to my comic. again the shrug etc. A WAH WAH WAH, or trombone. look back far enough and you'll see i didn't start posting that until i was doing my comic.
Twinkle toes - thanks! Mickey is SUPER tough. i always try to draw him to remind me of how much i need to improve (and this isn't false modesty AHEM j-dog). I like studying freddie moore's drawings of him..he plays with the head shape a bit more.
Uncle Walter back in the day was trying to sell the cutsie to da peeps -- today he'd be selling the 'tude, dude, right down to the "eat a dick" response.
You got this one on target!
Now, if you hate the said trolls so much, stop giving them attention? It's the basic rule of the internet "do not feed the troll". It's as if you /want/ them to come your way, so you'd have someone to cuss out for your own amusement.
Secondly, by using such foul language, instead of actually communicating humanly, you fall to the trolls' level if not lower.
Honestly, you should really just ignore the internet drama and continue with your life.
Fuck em, David. This was fucking funny. I never thought I'd see a hip-hop Walt Disney. Shit is hilarious!
....so we'll call it a success!!
Good work David.
Mickey mouse looks really good when drawn well. How does such a simple head be at all hard to draw?
Well, it's working! Keep it up!
Hey trolls! I thought this comic was well drawn and enjoyable! What's your response to that?
I like the comic, for the most part. It's not the kind of art I really like (although it looks like David has talent for it), but the stupid humor is a nice break and I'm a sucker for puns.
The comments kind of melt my brain, because most of these little "this sux" comments get blown into giant hateful exchanges. If you enjoy it, more power to you? It's kind of ugly to see if you're not directly involved, though.
As for the trollers, seriously ya'll, get a life. It's a comic, you decide you don't like it don't read it.
Gave me a chuckle, and that's all I need to be happy. Well done Mistah Dave
One thing that I am curious about is why people feel compelled to offer criticism, and indignant when their critiques are ignored. If everyone accepted and implemented every critique they took, she/he would cease to be producing something original and it would instead be a product of the masses. One reason I love David's comic and every comic on this site is because they have perspectives and ideas of which I would never have thought. I would be disappointed if they started to alter their creations into a more homogenous product just to please more people.
A good example of this is Weezer, because they have a very open dialogue with their fans about their music, such as voting for songs to be included on albums. I think it caused their music to suffer. Brendon Small talks about ignoring advice from fans in an audio commentary for, "Home Movies." I recall it was about the complaints from people that the show was no longer completely improvised.
As for the manner in which David rejects the comments certain people have, what difference would it make if he was very polite about it? Is there a difference if he instead responded with, "While I am truly appreciative that you took time out of your day to offer me advice, I respectfully disagree and choose to not utilize your suggestions. Thanks!" It is still him disregarding the comments. I personally find it much more fun and entertaining for him to go off like he does.
This isn't deviantART. I do not think the creators are posting their comics with the intent of bettering themselves as artists or at telling jokes.
I get the feeling that you just love the opportunity to scream at them on an online forum. This comment section, which should have been ABOUT THE COMIC, turned into you whining about people being meanie-butts. And an entire discussion of yours and theirs attitude. Grow a pair and stop giving a crap, or at least admit that you're provoking them for your own personal lolz. I personally find it irritating scrolling through the back and forth dick-biting trying to find comments that actually relate to what other people thought of the comic. I also doubt that I am the only one who finds it ridiculously stupid.
But whatever. It's your comic and comment board, not mine, so I'm probably not entitled to an opinion on the matter at all, right?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_Mickey
If not, then just a silly comic. Move on.
Reminds me of that "epic Mickey" game coming out and how the designers are probably high.
(Wow 57 comments already and its not even 9:30am yet!)
By the way, Mr. Gemmill *does* draw brilliantly. If nothing else were good about his comics, his drawing is one thing he *does* excel at, no question. He is modest about it, but why should he be? Now, if there's one thing webcomics suffer from, it is drawing -- I shudder thinking how awfully-drawn most of them are -- and so I celebrate Dumm Comics and Mr. Gemmill as wonderful cures for this disease.
I love David Gemmill's drawings and most of the time I laugh out loud. Sometimes the humor falls flat for me or I'm a little grossed-out but that's just me - I know that there are plenty of other fans loving the comic. So - and here's what really gets me - why would I bother to make a negative comment? Who does that serve? How is that constructive at all? Who even wants to read that I didn't like something? Certainly not the artist. And here's my point - this is a FREE comic! You're not paying for anything here and you don't have to read it. Don't like it? Move on!
If you honestly think you're a better artist or funnier than David, give him constructive criticism. Otherwise you're "opinion" is useless. And if you like the comic, a compliment is all that's needed - no, it's not necessarily constructive, but positive feedback is what feeds the artist - this is a free comic, remember?
Positive feedback pays the artist. Constructive criticism can help the artist. Negative comments without constructive criticism is just trolling and I'd be perfectly content if those were just moderated out.
However, your attitude down here in the comics seriously puts me off from your work, Mr. Gemmil. buck up or shut up, not everyone's gonna praise you. Sure, being an asshat just for the sake of it's not cool, but seriously? you're not acting any more mature, dude.
DUMM COMICS IS THE BEST WEBSITE FOR WEBCOMICS!
Thanks for bearing with me, on this.
Thanks to everyone enjoyed it, or offered some honest opinions, and thanks to the negative comments as well. These all go into consideration (mostly just the latter) while i finish up my final comics for this site.
which will be very soon.
See you guys later.
Tim - you are correct, it is partially linked to that silly video game, among other things.
I read your rant earlier on:
"I pity the lame-stain on this earth that trolls and brings down others in complete pussy anonymous fashion because they have no lives and nothing better to do."
Not sure how we can NOT be anonymous on the internet. Its not like we're going to link to our myspaces, facebooks or whatever site people post their personal shit on for all to see.
"And it doesn't help that you're one of the first to comment. Like you've been waiting patiently for tuesday to roll around just so you can shit on my comic."
Well, someones got to comment first. I mean, my first reaction was "Thats it?" as well. Just two panels? The art was great but it can't hold all its own. A gangster Mickey isn't all that lol-worthy.
"Last time i checked no one gave a shit enough about your artwork(if you drew)..."
This seems a bit egotistical. You draw well, but you're not exactly the best cartoon artist in the entire world. On top of that, you don't even know for sure whether or not that person draws.
"Dumm comics. That's what this shit is about."
Sure, the comic site is named Dumm Comics, but its not an invitation to make dumm jokes. Granted, some of your comics make me laugh but others just kinda make me wince ("Hamburger, ham booger" joke... argh).
In summary, some people will like your comics and others won't. Most of the time, the problem I see is the puns not being liked very much. But this is the internet; trolls are everywhere and screaming at them to eat dicks and tossing around the word asshole isn't going to help trolls go away or earn yourself any of our respect.
I know how it feels when people leave 3-word comments talking down on your creations; I make computer games every now and then. While they aren't exactly Super Mario awesome, they're pretty good considering all the work I put into the newer ones. You just gotta ignore the trolls and love your fans.
Keep up the comics, David.
Good work
Thanks for your half-assed awsomeness,
Some kid you don't give a shyt about.
This person - thanks the watch was a last minute addition that i forgot to carry over into the other panel. :(
Oh
and for the people who think i spend a whole week on a 2 panel, nah, this shit took me an hour, much of that hour was spent drawing then tossing out additional ruff panels to minimize the amount of work. That was mostly because i'm trying to buy some more time to be able to work on my longer comics. Trade-off.
but this is FREE, so technically i could be doing 2 or 3 panel comics all the time, or one panels, but because people always want more and expect more, and expect things that tickle their personal fancy's from a FREE comics website it makes it virtually impossible to please everyone.
also meep - i never said i drew awesome, my point was that while some of the anger from these posts quite possibly comes from people who don't anything themselves but see how easy it is to rip someone down (lke in 3 words) it was an example. BUt I respect that you do your own games and do something creative, it makes your criticism etc. more valid because its obviously something we agree on or relate to, putting your work on the internet and dealing with backlash etc. Admittedly the first couple of comments i was feeding the trolls, but like i said, read 70. thanks for the comment though.
this gag is not so much about a 'gangster hiphop mickey' but more about the executives reaction.
My eeeyyeeeees!!!!!!!!!!!! On second thought he's pretty well drawn, but the idea of "updating" characters Gaaahhh!!!!!!
-A fan.
That is a gansta-ass Walt D? I could see that these day :).
Unlike your No Threshold beats, this comic is off and on for me, but I can't think of a better site for a deliberately corny, pun-tastic series like this one.
Keep it up
