This just tears it, you know, some of your stuff is funny. Me and my friends laughed our asses off at Sexxi Batman, but a lot of your shit is just shit and it’s terrible. The worst part about it is, you are a decent artist, but 90% of your stuff just amounts to shit, which be exactly what you are getting at in this comic.
I usually have Dummcomics.com in general added to my favorite web comics folder I check on a daily basis and I guess I am just going to have to go and add personal bookmarks for the other comics just so I can avoid your shit. It’s fucking ridiculous they don’t have higher standards for this website.
When are you going to give this slot up to someone else who gives any fucks at all?
He said shit so many times I honestly wondered if it was an elaborate joke. Then he just had to go overboard with the f bomb. Some people just have no class at all.
David I really do like your stuff, the pun stuff is definitely my favorite. Regarding the uproar you are receiving, though it comes off as trolling since all the posts involve cussing and non constructive criticism, I believe the Dumm audience wants something but doesn’t know how to comunicate it without calling what they don’t want ‘shit’ a thousand times. You stuff isn’t shit, and I like your art, but it seems that the writing is what leaves people at Dumm wanting. Remember when Garrison used to do those once a week different gag, or maybe a two part gag, each with different, one time characters? It seemed like he would get crapped on by the comments every week, and it wasn’t until his ghost story that people started warming up to him. Now that he is doing ‘Our Heroes’ , a strip with characters that are being developed and a story arc, it seems the Dumm audience really embraced that series.
I believe what Dumm wants is a story. If not an actual on going series (since that is quite an undertaking) maybe a reoccurring character? Not just the dolphin (through my favorite is still the beatnik cat from forever ago) but maybe a character who has potential for development. It doesn’t even have to be serious, it can be really silly, it could be written completely ‘stream of consciousness’ even. If anything it’s worth the experiment, see how your audience reacts to a tiny, easy structured story. If it doesn’t work, oh well. Typing it out now I’m actually not so sure how well that would work for you, but even if you can’t use my criticism I think it’s worth posting something contructive instead of being rude. Just my opinion, thanks for reading :D
I don’t care what the dumm comics “audience” wants. That’s the best part of this. I can do whatever i feel like. I get paid to cater to an audience, i get paid to cater to executives, and directors and network brands. But i do this for free. I don’t care if people hate it. jeremy is right. I don’t give a fuck. And look how fucking PISSED HE IS. SO FUCKING UPSET. it’s great. I love it. I love it because whereas I have accepted life is just a giant ball of meaningless existence, jeremy cares. He and others care about a webcomic of all things. Like out of all the things in his life he gets angered and hurt over a webcomic that doesn’t deliver to his “standards”. And again, I give the same advice to all h8r’s, trolls, and people who don’t like my stuff, DONT FUCKING READ IT.
Authors should consider the fiasco around “The Greek Seaman” and be very careful in responding to online critics
I know people feel bad when their work is attacked in criticism, but anger is best left offline, in front of a mirror, or in front of VERY close friends and family.
David, I have sympathy for your feelings, but I suggest withholding them and only telling your close friends and family what you really think
Consider what this guy has to say: http://www.rmmagazine.com/2011/05/01/sticks-and-stones/
“If someone has something negative to say, it is usually best to be the bigger person (or company) and simply walk away. Choose your battles wisely. Because the reality is that the internet doesn’t care about your schoolyard rhymes. If given the chance, it will gladly find a way to make its words hit harder than sticks and stones ever could.”
do you see how silly this is. you are offering your holier-than-though-internet-etiquette advice in the comment section of a “comic” that is about disgusting scatty poopoo. irony
I wasn’t trying to be insulting. I’m a visual artist in a very competitive major and my art gets dogged on on a very regular basis, so if my critique comes off as an insult, it isn’t intended to be. I’m a little desensitized to criticism and enjoy it when people give supportive criticism, I figured since you are a professional artist you would like the same respect. As for not caring what your audience wants because this art is done for you and not them, I can understand that. I have to make art on a daily basis for people and am constantly being shut down and shit on by my directors and it becomes very exhausting, so I do personal work on the side where I can be free and do whatever I want. But I’m not sure if this media is ideal for that personal purge since you have subscribed readers that do get disappointed and have opinions that they share. I’m glad you don’t get phased by trolls and good for you that you are keeping at what interests you. Criticism isn’t always meant to insult however, and its sometimes vital for the creative progress to get as many different honest point of views as you can, which you can take to heart or ignore if they just don’t apply to your situation. Anywho thanks for applying your free time to post a comic every week, I honestly don’t know how you do it!
Hi hello there. I appreciate your comments. I think we both understand where we are mutually coming from and you can relate as an artist. I think people expecting someone to do an “amazing” comic every week is a somewhat unreasonable expectation unless the artist is doing it full time. Last I checked we are all working like you. And you probably know time consuming an art Job can be. The thing about criticism and compliments is that for me I only take then seriously from people I respect. I admit in my previous post I was throwing out some troll bait for shits and giggles because it’s better to laugh at the absurdity than let it affect you in a serious way. I understand people’s criticisms even if they presented in a caustic or rude way but I’m also smart enough to distinguish the diff between legit crits and just bullshit. So it’s all context anyway. And expectations.
MAybe I’ll do a storyline. Maybe not. Who knows, but like I said the whole point of this is the freedom it allows. That means things I make may not please everyone all of the time. That’s what shitty pop music is for. To please an LCD audience.
Anyway. I don’t take this too seriously because life is more important than a web comic much less the dialogue that happens over it. One of the only reasons I was upset with jerku is not because of his negative review, but that out of all the things in life he decides to angry over its a web comic which he has the personal option of NOT reading. This is the problem with the Internet. Getting caught up in useless bullshit. But jk’z life must be pretty great if a lame web comic is the biggest of his worries.
Don’t say “The thing about criticism and compliments is that for me I only take then seriously from people I respect.” in public. One doesn’t have to know how to run a dishwasher to judge it. If you say it public, people will get really angry with you. They have points that may be valid.
Stop playing around with trolls, and start ignoring them.
It’s one of those difficult things about art. Even people who never drew a picture in their life will think they are an expert on the field. I personally really enjoy your art and the gags that you have in each comic, my critique was more an attempt on trying to condense what everybody else might be complaining about into a coherent critique instead of rude trolling. I really love the work that you guys at Dumm produce but every time I look at the comments my blood boils. It seems like every week there’s a poster just bitching about the quality of the /free/ comics they receive. The fact is that you not only deal with a job, you also deal with the Dumm deadline voluntarily, most likely on top of a busy life and everything else. That you have to deal with “This is shit lol” every week is insane and it’s truly admirable that you put up with all that. I just wanted to try and translate the bickering but to be honest I thoroughly enjoy Sorry Guyz (as well as everything else on this site) and it’s always the first thing I check when I go online in the morning while drinking my coffee. I’ve always been a lurker who enjoyed it but it’s always more difficult to type out admiration than complaints. So yeah… in closing, thanks again for your time and just realize that every hater that posts derision there are probably ten lurkers who really enjoy your work but don’t comment.
Hello there: There are critics who can’t make a movie/draw/write to save their lives. As I’ve said, you don’t have to know how to build a dishwasher in order to judge it.
Nonetheless, some people can be good at critique, and some aren’t. It’s true that you don’t have to listen to everyone – that brings up the Aesop’s fable about the man and the donkey.
However it does mean that an author needs to deal with these messages properly. He doesn’t necessarily have to do what they say, but he has to have the proper public face.
As a note, saying “Oh I don’t care about trolling” often sends the opposite message to trolls. They like getting messages like that, and they may say “If you don’t care, why are you telling me you don’t care?” The way to deal with trolls is to **say nothing** (not “feeding” them)
I was about to moan about the torrent of ungrateful cunts deluded enough to complain on here but I changed my mind. Your sad existence is funnier than any comic I’ve seen on this website. Love your work, good luck with the fapping and complaining guyz!!
That David guy can go fuck himself in the arse with a rusty tablespoon. I happen to like the randomness and low expections of Sorryguyz. If anything the fact the comic doesn’t have a high standard to follow and no bounds in terms of scripting, length or humour genre makes it a great surprise, a cheesy smile gag or something different each week.
Sorry, I meant THAT JEREMY CUNT. I got his and your name muxed ip. Sorry David.
Oh, and to answer The Idealist Cynic….this reply thread has an anus like that.
I wonder if you’d sniff my dick and butt for me.
They should both smell like this comic.
You must be new around these parts.
Now THAT’s fanservice!
this is how I feel every day at work
you want this shit? how about this shit? no? well you can’t go wrong with THIS shit, with a side of that shit over there.
MOAR SHIT!
Bless you.
Whaaaaa-
Lol, no way to polish this turd…
Gah, that was horrible. WHO HAS AN ANUS LIKE THAT?!?!?!
Poop Powers, Activate!
Hollywood keeps its polished turd in Beverly Hills: http://jasoninhollywood.blogspot.com/2009/11/eye-catching-new-sculpture-in-beverly.html

cool dood.
He said shit so many times I honestly wondered if it was an elaborate joke. Then he just had to go overboard with the f bomb. Some people just have no class at all.
It’s the internet. It doesn’t matter.
You are saying I have no class when most of these jokes are about dicks or shit or something like that?
David I really do like your stuff, the pun stuff is definitely my favorite. no one is forcing you.
get over your pathetic self righteous bullshit.
And this is why David is a massive cunt.
Maybe he could be more of a fat aspie fuck like you
Hey, less of the negativity towards people Aspergers. I happen to not find that very funny and personally offensive.

david if you don’t care about anything why are still here, taking up space.
because Simon liked it.
Well I liked it, lol
At least I don’t have TP’s job.
I like how everyone is bitching about this comic and no one has noticed that Shitman is a snork. Lookit that nose!
