I do the second thing. The colors change pretty drastically in the final stage. Once I’ve drawn and inked and colored everything, I do a lot of hue/saturation adjustments and add different layers of blending modes until I like it.
I’ve been working as an artist on the show Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja for the last year and a half, and Jhonen did the main character designs for our show. Working on it for so long, I’ve definitely been influenced by that type of pointy, angular style, so I started incorporating it into the RAZ comic. I don’t want it to look exactly like his work, but I’m definitely influenced by the way characters look and move in Randy Cunningham, and it’s fun playing around with some of those elements in these comics.
