No, it’s just that you’re not supposed to root for the male characters. Tatiana doesn’t seem to be very sympathetic either, but look what she’s had to put up with. Impressive that they made it to the altar. It’s a good thing this couple is finally over.
Loathsome — I hope some of my characters are lovably loathsome, a la WC Fields, Daffy Duck, George Costanza . . . but I don’t want Zoo Laffs to be loathsome, no.
Misogynist — I haven’t done a tally, but I feel like I’ve done more Zoo Laffs about how awful the GUY is. Today’s, for instance. In fact, the guys aren’t even allowed to be tall or human! So you could say it’s more misandrist than misogynist.
Plus, when I show a character in a bad light, I just want the reader to think that particular character has flaws. I don’t want the reader to apply that to the character’s entire gender, race, nationality, or species . . . i.e., not ALL armadillos shoot off at the mouth; just Michael.
Unfunny — No, it’s not intended to be unfunny. That might be a better idea, though. Maybe I’ll give it a try!
That’s a very progressive-minded clergyman, being cool with a human marrying an armadillo, and not having any worries about the sanctity of marriage or if this union might lead to people marrying dogs or plants or even -heaven forbid- homosexuals. :)
I really don’t get it. I think the second line have a major part in the joke, but I can’t get it since I don’t understand the expression “Within reason” or it’s particular meaning on this joke.
Would any kind soul put a nice explanation about the intended joke?
Hi, ZC. If it has to be explained, let’s just say it failed on you. But, since you’re from Brazil, I’ll try to point you in the general direction. He’s worried about just how much worse, how much poorer, or how sick she might get. He’s like, I do, but let’s not get ridiculous!
Thank you, Chris, for your explanation!
In fact, after reading your comment I indeed laughed.
Looks like part of the problem (besides the language barrier) was the fact I didn’t knew the character -yet-.
I’ll start with the first volume now, your material seems pretty good.
Once again, TY
I have to admit, even as a girl I sympathise with Michael on this one. xD
Chris, I love your relationship humour, I think it’s really hard to write snippets this short which are both funny and build character, but I think you’re on the right track. Keep up the good work!
Perry & Sherry? I’ve got more stories in mind for them, but, since Perry’s the eternal friend-without-benefits, I’m afraid the stories aren’t very happy ones. But I’m currently working on some more upbeat material. When I started Zoo Laffs, I didn’t think it would be THIS much of a downer!
Also, re: P&S, that slicker inking style takes me too long. Jakey and Onion Puss have gotten more exposure, because the way I finish their comics isn’t as hard for me.
I like that you like to draw women without chins. Quite fond of them myself.
Your artwork has improved much! It’s a good gag too!
So this comic is SUPPOSED to be loathsome, misogynistic and unfunny, right?

How do you make the jump from the character being loathsome, to the comic being loathsome?
Can you only see in 2 dimensions?

Dames, they’ll hang a fellah for coverin his bases.
For richer, for poorer– Just a sec, Padre. How much poorer are we talking, here?

….So… no wedding cake then? ..okay…. that’s cool… *sniff*
his little cummerbund is hilarious

Zoo Laughs has gotten a lot better from when it first started.
Although I’ll admit, I’d like to see more happier stories. Whatever happened to the cat and the chick with the huge rack?

Thanks for reading, all you romantics! Come back next week, won’t you?
