We’ve been doing Skadi for 4 years now, so we figured it was time for a FAQ list to keep everyone up-to-date with the basics of Skadi’s tale, as well as address some common questions.
Also, here’s some links to some important Skadi comics:
Character Map, showing Skadi’s relation to reoccurring characters
The tale of Skadi’s origin, in 6 parts
A visual explaination showing why Skadi doesn’t get sick from being around Diseasoid
If you’ve got any other Skadi-related questions, ask in the comments and we’ll try to answer!

From there to here and here to there, the number one barbarian with the long-ass hair!
Long live Skadi the Wanderer!
I’m going to name my female barbarian in diablo 3 ‘Skadi’
Rly, what a coincidence, I already named my character (a female nord) from TES Oblivion the same name. :D
…oh, and Diz too!
the Bushbeast with the most harrowing lifestyle outside of their own cloud of vermin!
Youngest of THREE sisters, yes? Or “younger sibling to two evil sisters?”
yup, if she has two older sisters then she is the youngest of three sisters.
Yep, whoops, my mistake. It’s fixed now. Thanks!
+ Even (demon) girls want her
This was very informative.
I like the little diagonal lines on Skadi’s upper, inner knee-corners, that seem to indicate the weight of her thighs coming down.
My question is, what strange force keeps her chestal armors from falling off?
Boob sweat. No, just kidding…her original design had something like a metal bikini, with little chains connecting the boob plates around her neck and back. But it wasn’t fun to draw, and I eventually just dropped ‘em. I think they’re still there, just magically invisible…man what a lousy answer… :)
Maybe there are invisibly fine strings made of … catfish whiskers or something. I thought perhaps they were engineered to use vacuum suction, and she used a straw to get the air out when applying them. Or possibly they just screw on and off like bottle caps.
Hey, the title IS hidden in the first panel of a lot of Skadi comics! That’s really neat.
Hm, I wonder how lenient her definition of “beasts” is.
The hidden “Skadi” in the first panel of most strips reminds me of the D.U.C.K. signatur in the comics of Don rosa. Is there a connection?
And thanks for the FAQ, well done!
Nope, no connection! In early comics the title would be incorporated, but not hidden, into the backgrounds. But over time they kept getting more and more obscure until it became a game for the readers to find it. It wasn’t really planned!
I was wondering if that Skadi book was ever going to come to fruition or is it on hiatus?
Nice Fact List btw.
It’s still going to get made, but the going is slow, unfortunately. :<
Skadi the wanderer,
oh skadi the brave
with diseaseoid she treks
on into the fray
Her father she kneweth
as only a lass
her sisters she hated
doth ruined her past
A tree among saplings,
she stood ‘mongst the rest
her fans love most dearly,
-those, small plates on her chest
what perils she passes
through fire and ice
machinations most foul,
told by Katherine Rice
The reunion most somber
will happen, at last
upon her consumption
of a meat of each class
Oh skadi the wanderer
oh skadi the brave,
what lies yonder ‘head
keeps dummcomics ‘faved :)
Bravo!! Ha ha ha, that’s wonderful! Thanks! :D
thanks Katie!!!!
/clapping :-D
Is there a way I can only follow Skadi and not ALL of the Dumm Comics? I only like Skadi and one other one but the feed shows them all, so I deleted it. :(
6′-4″, likes meat and well endowed on the waist —My kind of woman!! :-)…
Here’s to Katie and Luke for four years of excellence in the comics! Keep up the great work. :)
I got a Skadi question. As established in “Tongue Of The Beast” (November 5th, 2008), Diseasoid can talk to other animals in a shared, beast language. So what does the Ballad of Skadi sound like to humans? Does Skadi hear the bushbeast’s eloquent rhymes as a mess of incoherent grunts, barks, and chirps?
Ballad of Skadi pt.1 (May 7th, 2008)
Ballad of Skadi pt.2 (September 24th, 2008)
I can’t believe it’s been four years. In high school I was led to this sight because of my intense admiration and love for Katie Rice’s work, and i”ve been following Skadi since. I’ve learned a lot from DummComics and it’s made me so happy, but also so sad. I’m glad Skadi is still around, I hope it stays that way for as long as you two feel comfortable making it. Although I haven”t been so vocal about it in recent times, I have been and I will always read it.
I guess that Diseasoid is also immune to the diseases and filth which inhabit his own fur. Aww, cute. Mayhaps it would be funny to do a microscopic-land comic strip focusing on his various diseases,
filth and cooties sometime. I do wonder if they may not have a lot of personality themselves. I don’t know but possibly he may have a small devil or imp residing in his stomach as well. Hmmm.. I don’t know why though. :)
