This story’s gonna come to a close before very long, y’all. After that, I’m making an out-of-town trip, which will put the kibosh on my drawing time for a spell. So, if anybody out there’s been hatching ideas for a Zoo Laffs guest strip, now would be a great time to let me know! I’ve had five awesome guest artists so far, as evidenced HERE. You could totally join their hallowed ranks.

I love this longer storyline. Sure, the shorter punny ones are fun, but I like this better. Jakey is gradually becoming more likeable and heck, him and miss hippy are both flawed enough to deserve each other. Not a clue where you want this story to go, but I’m enjoying the ride!
Could anyone else see these two getting their own spin-off series, or is it just me?
So… she gives him a “please take care of this” look, and then immediately afterwards looks horrified that he may/will violence those people. Did she… A) forget who he was? B) forget how he handles things? C) forget that she asked him to do it? The final panel seems disconnected from the one immediately before it, and awkward because of this.
I’d like to reply to you now, adekii, but I’ll wait ’til tonight, to see what other comments I get on the matter (if any).
I see it more as one of those “I’m stuck in an awkward position / what do I do?” kind of reactions, and Jakey is just jumping to conclusions and is about to ram their geriatric bones into dust. Ramming some overzealous fans is one thing, but to Sass that may be the wrong way to handle a situation like this.
Great strip, as always, Chris! Looking forward to your return and seeing what’s next in store for Sassafras and Jakey.
The right way is to defensively ram the nurse if she goes and touches Sass, only the nurse and walk away from the place.
Any one else getting Adventure time vibes from these two?
Michael J. Ruocco has it right. At least, that was my intention — for it to look like she was just thinking, “Too bad Jakey can’t help me on this one,” and like Jakey’s thinking, “She’s giving me the signal?!” Kind of a subtle thing to convey, though. I wonder how many people will interpret her look as a purposeful one.
Random: Good strategy! I want you on my side. Next week, we’ll see if Jakey follows your advice. … and, I love Adventure Time! I hadn’t thought about it, but I suppose Sassafras’s hat is a bit like Finn’s, with the ear thingies.
Oh, ok! Now it makes sense. I’m just thick, nothing new, carry on!
I am soo, so so loving zoo laffs. It’s really developed nicely and the pacing of the comics is great! Awesome work as per usual!
I know I’ve said it before but I’m really liking these long format comics and this story! The characters are getting much more denominational and interesting, great work Chris!
“dimensional” I meant to say,
It seems like a bunch of you guys are really enjoying this Kablooey story, which is awesome to hear. I can’t thank you enough for the kind words.
Come back next week, won’t you?, and find out what happens next at Twilight Chase. So long!
Twilight Chase, the only way to check out is to follow the light.
I think the confusion in the before-last panel about weither or not she intentionally asks Jakey to strike or not is because she went from an open-handed, forward and powerless posture to a colder-looking, hands-hidden-behind-her-back and titled head posture. It seems to indicate she gave up trying to explain and asks for a quick way out instead.
The panel would probably have been better if she looked puzzled, contrasting with something like a closed-eyes cofnident Jakey. It would offers more of a “I don’t know what to do” from her, and a “Don’t worry, I’ll handle it” vibe from the goat.
My two cents.
On an unrelated side notes, you really got better at this. The first comics of Zoolaffs really left me cold. I’ll be honest, I didin’t like ‘em at all. Recently however, the art got genuinely good, or at least they have a signature and style, and the gags became actually quite funny when the female characters became, well, characters rather than tokens.
So, yeah, keep it up. I’m warming up to sundays,
