I think Amadi and every other Seth hater misses the point about “Family Guy”, “American Dad” and now “The Cleveland Show”. While all the purists were harping what a lousy animation the Seth Empire is, he rather stealthily became the new Mel Brooks. Think I’m full of it? Watch “Blazing Saddles” and “Young Frankenstein” and”Silent Movie”. Now watch “Family Guy”,,, not just a few choice episodes, the whole canon. The guy IS the new Mel Brooks.
Now live with that!
Well I was always a fan of Home Movies, the back and fourth banter really is what sold me on the show. I think that’s why I like Bob’s Burgers so much. Can’t say I was ever a fan of Phineas and Ferb.
I’d like Family Guy a lot more if it was actually funny, and if Seth stopped using it as a vehicule for expositing on his beliefs. “Not All Dogs Go to Heaven” pretty much turned me off of the series. …And I’m not even a religious person.
I stopped watching the series way before that episode, but after hearing of it, it solidified my decision of never watching any of Seth’s shows ever again. I don’t care what he and his writers’ opinions are, but when they act like stuck-up jerks while expressing them in a TV show, that’s when they cross the line. …And I like Phineas and Ferb, too. (which is strange since it was co-created by a Family Guy writer)
As for this comic, I LOVE it! There’s nothing more satisfying to me that seeing a stuck-up “animation historian” like “Imad” get slammed by a comic.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!! have you given Amid the link for this? he will die laughing. and I’m completely on his side when it comes to Family Guy. :) WOOHOOO TABLE-FLIPPIN’!!!
…….OH! I Get it. Cartoon Brew Joke. Amid parody. HA-AH!
Yeah, I’m sorry. I know I shouldn’t be inputting a story into this but, remember the aftermath of the frog fu battle. Are we never going to address that again?
I don’t know about all these purists who harp on the animation that you speak of. I do know plenty of people who think it isn’t funny. Family Guy WAS funny once upon a time, but it’s degraded into “Repeat someone else’s joke with our characters and it’s funny because it’s our characters.” If only they spent as much time thinking about funny bits instead of trashing other media they see as mediocre and formulaic.
Also, I don’t even go on Cartoon Brew anymore. Too many fights with elitist snobs.
I always liked Family Guy and still like it. I used to like American Dad a little and now actually love it. I can appreciate the Cleveland show and season 2 is wackier than ever. In fact, I download the episodes for all 3 every week along with The Simpsons and South Park.
As for Phineas and Ferb. Nothing beats that. Ever.
All I know is if you find a cartoon or a song or any other work of art intoxicating and blissful in some kind of way, than you find that work blissful and intoxicating.
Besides, that’s why the earth has many cartoons and many songs and many other works of art, if you don’t like one of them go on to another, or make your own.
But if someone tells you why you should or shouldn’t like something, then they can eat a weenie, unless they like weenie, then you could find another “unpleasantness” for them to enjoy.
Some people like things because they’re boring and predictable. They have just enough variety to slightly distract them, but not enough to possibly challenge them. Souls are kind of painful things to have, and thus the temptation to seek the soporific and numbing is always there.
Watching someone watching Family Guy is like coming across a junkie shooting up and lying in the gutter. Perhaps they find the experience “intoxicating”, in some sense. Perhaps they should be free to make this choice. But I’d still be disappointed if someone close to me made that decision.
When I was but a wee child I thought cartooning would be a fun, almost whimsical, career making people happy. I soon discovered around the time I started college that apparently cartoons are a hot bed minefield of controversy where one wrong work can send the masses into a frothing writhing mass. My opinion put simply is, there are cartoons I like, and cartoons I dislike, and they are NOT time sensitive, there are old and modern toons I like and old and modern toons I am not a fan of.
I wish I could “like” this more than once. I’m so tired of hearing internet “experts” complaining about modern animation just because they aren’t taking part of it or it doesn’t match whatever their personal vision of what it should be. Nobody seems to acknowledge the truth in that mainstream audiences are laymen who don’t know anything about cartoons don’t care what they look like, as long as they find them funny. If it appeals to them, it will succeed; if it doesn’t, it will fail. Period. People also tend to forget that Family Guy was originally CANCELLED, then was relegated to cult status for years, and it was FAN SUPPORT that brought it back.
Awesome caricature of “Imadi”. I could tell it was him even before the name drop. And knew just where the comic was heading. Haha
I also won’t be surprised if this ends up on the Brew.
I LOVE how all of the butthurt AMID fangirls are coming out of the woodworks in support of that snob. I visit his blog everyday(just like JohnK, who is ALSO a snob), but a lot of the times its more infuriating than informative.
Well we know who the real snobs are … John K himself finds FG funny, he just hates what passes for animation on that show. And I can always tell the ones who scream the loudest how they hate it … must not miss a single episode. If you taped them surreptitiously, they’d be laughing their asses off. Of course they’d deny it until they are blue in the face, that’s how big the disconnect in their brains.
“I can always tell the ones who scream the loudest how they hate it … must not miss a single episode.”
Not even close, but go with that if it comforts you. Watched FG for awhile; sometimes hilarious but the desperate-to-offend wore thin very quickly (even though “South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut” remains one of my favorite movies) and the whole HAW HAW! HE PUNCHED HER IN THE FACE! THE FACE!! aspect made me drop the show the moment I realized that it was a regular episode feature. That was back when Brian and Stewie did their first “Road to…” parody.
As for the strip itself…man, that’s an awful lot of work just to call someone a poopy doo-doo head nerdyboy. If a person went to even half that length to mock someone around here, I’m fairly certain it would result in a ban, and a Super Cool Homoerotic Stalker Story Bro salted with vague threats of suicide.
somebody grab a bucket, the fire’s SPREADING!
but seriously, almost threw up all over the walls with strawberry’s line for the hawk with ears.. now them’s some workin’>/i> jokes!
I hate to say it, but Imad’s pose in the last panel is really bad. It doesn’t look much like he’s just flipped a table over. He looks more like he’s getting ready to do a flamenco dance.
Also, yeah… Could probably use some background characters…
I had to look this guy up, as I did with John K. Meanwhile I know Macfarlane without keeping up with any of his shows. They’re just salty that they aren’t valid anymore…
Okay, this is brilliant.

Family guy rips off American dad? What?
Seth rebooting Flintstones?
That sounds pretty awesome actually. I’m interested in seeing what direction he’ll move series towards.
Well he did work for Hanna-Barbera and had a hand in Johnny Bravo and Dexter’s Lab, so it might be promising.
Is this comment meant to be satire?
I’m also a fellow Family Guy hater, but I happen to think modern toons are pretty rad. Just not Seth McFarlane toons.
I think Amadi and every other Seth hater misses the point about “Family Guy”, “American Dad” and now “The Cleveland Show”. Well, I’d have to agree that anyone who thinks animation is the biggest problem with Seth MacFarlane’s work is missing something…
Hurray for The F+, or I wouldn’t have gotten at least one joke here.
I don’t know much about the guy in question, but I know enough to earn a good chuckle from here. Nice XD
Kevin:
YOu seem to be assuming that the only thing that makes Mel Brooks comedies funny is the fact that they’re superficially offensive.
Yeah, Kevin, Some people would compare “Blazing Saddles” to “Family Guy” and say, “Blazing Saddles is a great movie. Family Guy totally sucks.”
Ha ha hahahahahahaha!!!
Wow! This is great! I don’t know what else to say.

We always come back to our continuing themes. This will be no exception.
i like TS FG AD CS some episodes maybe not great but i can laugh multiple times watching them that’s all i want: A good loud laugh.

Hey, where’s Perry?
I like Family Guy, et all.
And there’s nothing you can do about it. :P

I wonder what would happen if I mentioned Problem Solverz
Now, I like this comic, but I cannot for the life of me figure out what’s going on in panel 4. A little help, here?

By the way. I want that giant Ray Fillet doll!
I will forgive this man for disliking Home Movies for having an understandable reaction to Family Guy
but yeah what a douchebag
OH MAN! OH MANOHAMNOHMAN!
Link to today’s comic on Cartoon Brew now!
YES! HAHA! I love it!

aka john k
I honestly don’t know what people see in Phineas and Ferb. I hate it, I hate it worse then Sorry Guys.
insensitive soul ):
Surely, it’s possible to hate Family Guy and Phineas & Ferb without being a frothing spaz >__>
Hey! That convention isn’t accurate!
The dealer room in the first panel isn’t stuffed to the brim with people!
Shame on you. :D
That’s the room before the convention hall– check the sign pointing to the actual con– It’s sparsely attended, both for the joke and for my sanity.
I’m jealous!
I’m not gonna read thru all the comments, but man I am SO looking forward to next week’s comic, this is awesome.
Awesome. Why didn’t I think of this?
Strawberry is a connoisseur of Tracy Jordan movies, I see. Well played, Kyle. :)
Sooblime. :)

They also just might not think that ripping off internet memes is funny.
The first thing I thought of while reading this was “John K”
umad, bro?
No, Imad!

For someone who’s got the whole universe figured out, you sure get a lot of things wrong.
somebody grab a bucket, the fire’s SPREADING!
but seriously, almost threw up all over the walls with strawberry’s line for the hawk with ears.. now them’s some workin’>/i> jokes!
Not only is this hilarious, it’s beautiful!
YOU WIN
*helpless giggling*
Seeing a raging cartoon historian rage that hard must sound a litle…like this: http://youtu.be/oghBXKHWcyw?t=2s

Addendum:
Not that they were all that valid before. Extremely limited audience.
Nice Ray Fillet and Muppet cameos.
lol I like “Home Movies,” and “Phineus and Ferb.”
